Bulldogs Behind the Scenes: Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

Join UMD Alumni Relations and the University of Minnesota Alumni Association on Thursday, August 6 for a fascinating look at the evolution of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. We will hear from Alan Branhagen, Director of Operations, as we take a “virtual” walk through the vibrant gardens.

Bulldogs Behind the Scenes is a UMD alumni event that gives you an inside look at local industry leaders. Alumni and friends will enjoy facility tours, access to company leadership, and connecting with each other through curiosity and learning.

In 1958, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum was a little-known horticultural research station sitting on 160 acres of remote marshland. Today, 62 years later, the Arboretum has blossomed into an international research center and cultural destination that contributes to the horticultural, economic, and intellectual lives of people all over the world.

Named as one of the Best Botanical Garden in the U.S. by USA Today in 2017 and 2019, the Arboretum boasts 30,000 member households, 900 active volunteers and almost a half million visitors annually. With its 1,200+ acres, 28 gardens, 20 displays and model landscapes, 44 plant collections and more than 5,000 plant species and varieties, the Arboretum has become one of the premier horticultural field laboratories and public display areas in the country, reaching out as a living, vibrant extension of the University of Minnesota.
