UMD Campus Climate Initiatives and Projects
UMD offers a number of initiates and projects to advance the climate on the UMD campus. Chancellor Black charged the campus with diversity and inclusion action items for the 2020-2021 academic year. Find more information on the seven diversity and inclusion action items, including their current status.

UMD seeks input through Campus Climate surveys and uses student focus group discussions to identify problem areas and focus future work.
UMD continues to offer a wide variety of majors, minors and graduate programs that align with cultural competency and diversity education.
Dozens of training opportunities for UMD staff and faculty are offered on many topics throughout the year.

Diversity Policy & Practices related to Undergraduate Education
This team responds quickly to incidents that harm the university's climate. They regularly review and analyze how incidents are handled and provide a yearly summary report of incidents.They share recommendations for programming, education and other proactive approaches based on observed trends
Diversity Pre-Doctoral Fellows
UMD hires pre-doctoral fellows from underrepresented groups to teach at UMD and mentor students while finishing their doctoral thesis.
Director of Education for Inclusive Excellence
This cabinet-level leader facilitates campus climate initiatives for faculty, staff, administration, and students.
Annual performance evaluation for staff members includes language recognizing the value of individual efforts to improve the campus climate.
