TCHIPAYUK, IKWE, MISTRESS MADELAINE, AND "AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING" - MÉTIS AND WOMEN ON THE FRONTIER
1. Write a question that you think would produce an interesting discussion about Tchipayuk and Ikwe, Mistress Madelaine and "As It Was in the Beginning." Think about the relationship between the values of the characters in the novel and the fictional and real people you've met in other course materials. Is there some sense in which these characters demonstrate "frontier" values. What are these values? Do Americans and Canadians still have such values. Try to tie you question to specific quotations from your readings.
2. Write a brief explanation of the reason you think your question should produce a good discussion. (3 minutes)
3. Introduce yourself to the students in your group and share your questions and explanations with the rest of the group. Spend a bit of time talking with each other about each of the questions to see where they lead you. (15 minutes)
