The Metis
By Tim Christensen

The Metis are a half breed between French and Indians, usually French men and Indian women.  They can be found all over the world now, but they started in Canada.  They are known as Canada's first people.  The Metis were originally led by a man named Louis Riel, he is thought to be one of
the most prolific figures in Canadian history.  The Metis have a rich history that has been very influential towards the settlement of Canada and the United States.  Metis life was based on hunting and fur trading.  They mainly hunted the buffalo and that was their main food source.  They lived much the same way as the English settlers.
