Your Guide to Graduation Day

Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral Degree Commencement Ceremonies

The Commencement ceremonies are not held on campus, they are in AMSOIL Arena which is at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) located in downtown Duluth.

We encourage all graduating students to mark this milestone and celebrate your extraordinary achievement, by participating in Commencement. This is a day memories are made; it is a time for recognition of your accomplishments.  We look forward to congratulating all 2020 graduates and welcoming you into the University of Minnesota Duluth Alumni family.

Commencement Ceremony times

RSVP to Commencement

Applying to graduate DOES NOT automatically RSVP you to participate in commencement. The last day to RSVP to attend the May 9 commencement ceremony is Friday March 20.

In addition to applying, you must also complete the Commencement Questionnaire where you will RSVP and confirm you will be in attendance, and tell us if YOU need special assistance.

If you missed the deadline to RSVP to commencement and you are an undergraduate student, contact; if you are a graduate student contact

UMD uses an option called NameCoach.  This system allows you to record your name to help ensure our commencement name readers, Dr. Brown, Dr. Erwin and Dr. Smyth, have an opportunity to listen to you say your name and help them pronounce it correctly on commencement day.  Students who submitted an RSVP to attend commencement but not already recorded their name in NameCoach will be receiving an email with an invitation and link to record their name.  If you have not received an email by late April, please contact us at
