Course Proposal Processes

New Courses and Changes to Existing Courses

New courses require the completion of the Courses Proposal form, submitted to Academic Affairs.  It may be sent electronically. A program that wishes to reactive a discontinued course must follow the course proposal process.

Changes in courses may be sent in memo format if there is only one change.  If multiple changes are requested, the Courses Proposal form must be completely, noting only the changes proposed, and submitted to Academic Affairs.  It may be sent electronically.

All new and changes to courses are Electronic Course Authorization System, (ECAS) by Academic Affairs.  Entry into ECAS is automatically and immediately updated in PeopleSoft.  However, changes will not be seen in the online catalog until the first effective date of the change.

Community Engaged Learning Policy  CEL designation indicates a courses involves a community engaged learning teaching strategy which aligns with UMD's Strategic Plan goal #5 to advance UMD's profile as an intentional and pivotal partner for Duluth, the Northland, and Minnesota.  The CEL addendum must be completed; all CEL designated courses must be re-approved every five years.
