It's your day!
President Gabel has announced a postponement of all spring 2020 graduation ceremonies systemwide. The safety of our students, their families, as well as our UMD colleagues, is our top priority. Please know we are looking for alternatives and will update the website as soon as possible.
Students must continue to apply for graduation in the normal manner. Students who meet the requirements for graduation will have their degrees awarded, and will receive their diplomas. Only the actual commencement ceremony scheduled for May 2020 is being postponed.
Commencement is a celebration of all you have accomplished. Participation is voluntary but highly recommended!
Students who anticipate completing all degree requirements by the end of Fall 2020 are eligible to walk, with program approval. Please consult with your program advisor and Director of Graduate Studies if you wish to participate, but will not have completed all degree requirements by the end of May 2020.
UMD Commencement 2020 is scheduled for
Saturday, May 9, 2020 - postponed - please continue to RSVP, however, so that we can keep in touch about alternative arrangements.
Requirements and deadlines
Please confirm your degree information for the printed Commencement Program, and complete the Commencement RSVP form online, even if you do not intend to participate. This is the only way we will know whether or not you plan to attend the Commencement Ceremony, and for your name to appear in the printed Commencement program, so please take a few minutes to complete this important step.
Friday, March 20, 2020 is the deadline to RSVP for Commencement.
- Visit our degree progress and completion page to be sure you are on track for graduation.
- Apply to Graduate online through your MyU Portal by the first day of the month in which you intend to complete all degree requirements. Note: This is NOT the same as the Commencement RSVP above. Applying to graduate is a separate step. You must apply to graduate through MyU to get your degree.
- Remember, Graduate School policy requires that you register every fall and every spring until your degree is awarded. Please contact the Graduate School Office or your program office with any questions.
Individual programs may have additional requirements for degree completion. Please check with your program office.
