Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record)

I-94s record that you were lawfully admitted to the U.S. for a specific period of time.  Electronic I-94s can be downloaded from the CBP I-94 website.  Each time you enter the U.S., you should check your I-94 to make sure it is correct.  People who enter visa land or boat from Canada or Mexico may receive a paper I-94 card stapled in their passport.  It is very important that you do not lose this document.

Your I-94 will indicate the date you arrived in the U.S., the type of visa status you were admitted on (F-1, J-1, etc.), and the length of time that you are admitted to the U.S.  You Admitted Until Date should say "D/S", indicating "duration of status" which means that you are admitted for the length of your program of study, plus any period of training/employment, plus your grace period in which to depart the U.S.
