Manuscript of the Pauline Epistles in Arabic

This Arabic manuscript was written about 1450 and is a translation of the Epistles of Paul. The text has been carefully written in black and red, and the book and chapter headings are illuminated, using the common Arabic device, for Koranic texts, of ornate calligraphy. This developed in Islam because of the prohibition of portraying God or any holy person, but would not necessarily have been carried over into a Christian text.
