Help with overspending

We first deal with financial trouble by identifying the problem - overspending or not sticking to a budget - and then forming an action plan. These are a few steps to get you started.

  • 1. Track your spending.
  • 2. Create a budget with the ultimate goal of saving more than you spend, or "breaking even".
  • 3. Evaluate behavior to spend less and decrease expenses. Start by looking at wants versus needs.

Even with the best intentioned plan, we sometimes need professional help to guide us. Contact Niki Pechinski to get started on a one to one plan. UMD recommends Lutheran Social Services for outside help.
