Rh- pregnant patients who have no antibody on initial screening are retested
at 28 weeks. RhoGAM (Rh immune globulin) is administered at this time if no
sensitization (antibody screen is negative) has occurred.
(Summary: Rh-pregnant patients who have no antibody on initial screening are
retested at 28 weeks. If no sensitization has occurred, they are given Rh immune
globulin for protection for the remainder of the pregnancy. If the father is
Rh-, this is not needed. After delivery, the child's blood type and Rh status
are determined. If the child is Rh+, a second dose of RhoGAM is administered
in the first 72 hours after delivery to the mother.)
RhoGam is to be administered in an unsensitized Rh- Patient in the following
situations: 28 weeks pregnancy, within 3 days of Rh+ infant, at the time of
amniocentesis, after a positive Kleihauer-Betke test, after an elective abortion,
after a spontaneous or induced abortion.
