Fall Semester Surfing & SUP Pass Sales
If you're frothing over surf adventures, choose the Entry Level Surf & SUP Pass for $65 (UMD Student Members) to get full access to October and November training sessions. Fall Pass sales start at 9:00am on Monday, October 12 and usually sell out in one day. Passes are limited to the first 10 people registered so it's important to be committed if you choose to purchase a pass.
Surf & SUP Pass holders will be able to attend training sessions at the UMD Pool on Fridays 9:00-10:450am starting October 16. Most importantly, you will receive email invitations to roughly 4-6 additional storm surf training sessions at the Lester River Surf Shack on the shoreline of Lake Superior whenever the conditions are favorable. When the lake is flat we will introduce you to longboard skateboard land paddling, SUP touring and prone paddleboarding.

Single Session - UMD Pool Based - Surf & SUP Training (105021)
Learn about board control, paddling technique, awareness of board trim, turning skills, ducking waves, how to pop up into a stance and balance. Strength and endurance training tips will be covered through interval training on and off the surfboards. This is a great chance to meet others interested in surfing, determine if you want to buy a Surf & SUP Pass for Fall Semester, 2020, learn about equipment, risk management and etiquette. Limited to four surfers per session.
Lester River Surf Shack Board-sport Sampler: Stand-Up Paddleboarding, Prone Surfing and Longboard Skateboarding
Learn SUP strokes and maneuvers in the warm calm water of the lagoon and then venture out to the cool clear water of the big lake. Stand up or kneel down... Join your friends and look around. Learn the basics of prone surfing and as time allows we will touch on longboard skateboarding training techniques commonly used by surfers. Choose your level of challenge from beginner to intermediate skill development. Instructors will help to create a safe and positive environment for you to try these boardsport skills for the first time, and offer new challenges to those who have more experience.
The boards, paddle, leash, wetsuit, paddling jacket and lifejacket are provided. You bring two Covid-19 face masks, warm clothes, a swimsuit, shoes that can get wet, towel, snack and water bottle. Hand sanitizer, disinfectant spray, wipes, changing room and portable restroom is also provided. Only four students will be enrolled in each session to provide a safe and productive learning environment. Meet at 6008 London Road on the West side of the Lester River with free parking next to the historic Limnology Building and smaller Surf Shack building closer to the shoreline.
