Research and Creative Activity at UMD

At UMD, our shared passion for discovery fuels innovation and creativity across the five colleges. Faculty and students work together to produce high-quality research that benefits people in Minnesota and beyond. Whether they’re discovering new galaxies or composing original music for a theatre production, Bulldogs are changing the world.

Each year, UMD’s colleges and research institutions invest over $25 million in research and development. This external support from federal and state agencies, as well as the private sector, ensures that UMD continues to preserve Minnesota’s natural resources, to build a strong regional economy, and to foster global engagement among students.
