You're walking by a posting area and see a poster that you disagree with -- it makes you furious! Tear it down? No way. Don't do it. DON'T DO IT.

You're walking by a posting area and see a poster that you disagree with -- it makes you furious! Tear it down? No way. Don't do it. DON'T DO IT.

You already know -- even if you haven't thought much about it -- that tearing down posters is destruction of property. Not cool. But tearing down a poster you don't agree with opens the door for others who disagree with your beliefs to tear down posters you think are important. That would make you furious too. Slippery slope... don't do it.

So what should you do? Leave that poster there -- it has a right to be there. Each approved poster in a posting area has the name of the student group or campus department that is sponsoring it. You can go to the UMD Directory (departments) or BulldogLink (student groups) to find contact information. Contact that department or group, let them know you disagree, and have a conversation about it. That's productive, not destructive.

Tearing down posters is never the right answer. Don't be that person, and don't let your friends be either. C'mon UMD students. Let's do the right thing.
