Lunch on a Mission: Who Are Our Students? Queer & Trans+ Students
Last year Susana Pelayo Woodward kicked off our "Who are our students?" series with a great session about Students of Color. This is the next session in the series! This session will focus on queer and trans+ students in higher education and how emerging issues in the field relate to opportunities and initiatives at UMD. This presentation will consider trends in campus climate data, nation-wide student activism, and interpretations of better practices to encourage attendees to examine their own spaces and how they can combat homophobia and transphobia.Date: November 9, 2016Time: 12 - 1 p.m.

Lunch on a Mission: Who Are Our Students? Students with Disabilities
Join us for a discussion focusing on students with disabilities at UMD. Participants will get a snapshot of what the UMD experience might look like for a student with a disability. We'll talk about national and local trends among college students with disabilities, frequently used accommodations, and common barriers encountered in the classroom and beyond. This is a great opportunity to understand our students more deeply, and to use that understanding to improve our campus climate.

Lunch on a Mission: History of UMD
Join us for a discussion of the history of the University of Minnesota Duluth. In addition to a brief overview of the history of the University, Dr. Neil Storch will discuss student activism through the years, and compare and contrast staff and faculty roles today with the past.
Dr. Storch is well qualified to lead a discussion on this topic. To quote from his biography: "[Dr. Storch's] special interest in the history of UMD resulted in essays and numerous talks. With Ken Moran, the campus photographer, he produced a book, UMD Comes of Age: The First One Hundred Years and served on an all-university Advisory Committee for a book on the history of The University of Minnesota, 1945-2000."
