COVID-19 UPDATE

UMD Students - Champ's Cupboard is still open for you! Champ's Cupboard is located in the UMD Mailroom during the time that access to campus buildings is restricted. Click here to download instructions as to accessing the mailroom. The PDF includes information about where to park. Meal swipes are not available at this time.

We are not able to accept donations at this time. Our staff who run the cupboard are working remotely and so we're unable to follow our process for accepting donations that follows guidance for food pantries. The good news is that the Cupboard has a great supply of food right now and can restock the UMD Mailroom if need be. If things change and donations are needed, we'll figure out a process and update this website.

Since the COVID-19 situation is continually evolving, please check this website and our Facebook page for our most up to date status/hours before coming to use the Cupboard.

Champ's Cupboard Information

Champ’s Cupboard is a free food shelf offered to all UMD students. Students can pick from a variety of non-perishable items including rice, pasta, soups, sauces, and vegetables. Students can also choose from toiletries such as shampoos, soaps, and diapers. Champ's Cupboard is stocked with items donated by faculty, staff, students, and alumni. To access Champ's Cupboard, students should follow the directions above to come to the UMD Mailroom. Students need to show their ID card so that student status is verified. Students are then provided access to the cupboard, and they may take all the items they need. It's a great idea to bring a bag or backpack for the items taken. All that is asked at the end of the student's visit is for fill them to fill out a brief form (no questions are asked about why the student needs the food, the student's income, etc.). The form allows staff to track what items are taken, what needs to be replenished, and what items are popular.

Champ's Cupboard was established in 2013, and the support for the program from the UMD community has been phenomenal! Here's a link to a Fox 21 news story that shares information on the impact the Cupboard has had for UMD students.

For questions about the program or information about how to make donations, contact the Office of Student Life (contact information at left).
