#64. Carnival at Nice.

12 x 24, oil on cradled panel. "Gilbert Munger 1890" lower right. A paper label on the back shows the title and "No. 26". This is the Munger painting of the same name and date that was in the Lyman A. Mills collection. Mills was the Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 1899 to 1901. He had at least 15 Mungers. Given by him to the Louise Crumbe Beach Memorial collection at the William Benton Museum, Univ. of Connecticut, Storrs, in 1933. This painting makes it very likely that Munger did travel to the south of France — Nice, in particular. Appears in "Gilbert Munger: On the Trail" by Cummings, in Bulletin 1982, 10, Benton Museum of Art, Univ. of Connecticut, Storrs, p.5. QFD Pl.63. Tweed 2003 Exhibition n.62.
