One Thanksgiving when she was in high
school, her mother completely forgot to buy a turkey. She had tried to
make a joke out of it. I guess we know who the real turkey is in this family. To make up for it, she had ordered Maggie's favorite takeout, sweet and sour chicken. They parked in front of the television for the afternoon and ate out of the paper boxes while watching the taped version of Macy's parade that her mother had recorded that morning before they woke up. |

She should have been relieved. Turkey
was never her favorite. But that year, she wished her mother had made
it. "Turkey's almost ready! Honey could you start the gravy?" One of the sugary sweet aunts started towards her, flour and baster in hand. A cacophony of deep hoots erupted from the opposite side of the house. "Honestly. Those guys. For once, they could shut that silly game off." |
