Only one person per team should install Payara.
To prepare for installing the server you should create a new folder for
the server using the UNIX mkdir
command and move into that
folder using the cd
command.
The commands below create a folder named server
but you can
use a different name if you prefer.
gshute@ukko:~$ mkdir server gshute@ukko:~$ cd server
You can use the UNIX cp
command to copy files from one
place to another.
Use this command to copy the Payara zip file from my public folder to
your new folder.
The " ." at the end of the command is important.
The period is the UNIX abbreviation for the current directory.
gshute@ukko:~/server$ cp ~gshute/public/payara-4.1.1.161.zip .
You can use the UNIX pwd
command to show what folder you
are in, and the ls -F
command to list the contents of that
folder.
You should see something like the following.
gshute@ukko:~/server$ pwd /home/csfaculty/gshute/server gshute@ukko:~/server$ ls -F payara-4.1.1.161.zip
Now you can unzip the zip file with the UNIX unzip
command
and list the new folder contents with the ls -F
command.
gshute@ukko:~/server$ unzip -q payara-4.1.1.161.zip gshute@ukko:~/server$ ls -F payara41/ payara-4.1.1.161.zip
Most of the commands are given from inside the payara41
folder so you should use the cd
command to go there now.
The ls -F
command shows the contents of that folder.
gshute@ukko:~/server$ cd payara41 gshute@ukko:~/server/payara41$ ls -F bin/ glassfish/ javadb/ mq/ pkg/
There is a program, asadmin, that is located in the
bin
folder.
This command is needed to start or stop the Payara application server,
It can also be used to start or stop the Derby database server.
There is one program, ij, that is located in the
bin
subfolder of the javadb
folder.
This command is needed to create a database.
