Drugs that disrupt DNA / Intercalating agents
II. Intercalating agents: ANTHRACYCLINE ANTIBIOTICS
Types (by chemical classification)
- all of the intercalating agents are anthracycline antibiotics ("RUBICIN"s)
- the most clinically important is DOXORUBICIN (one of the most widely used antineoplastic drugs)
- others include DAUNORUBICIN, EPIRUBICIN, EPIRUBICIN and MITOXANTONE
- the other anthracyclines have identical properties but specific therapeutic uses
