CIMETIDINE, FAMOTIDINE, NIZATIDINE, RANITIDINE, ROXATIDINE

H2 receptor blockers effectively prevent stimulation of gastric acid secretion (esp. nocturnal).  With the exception of CIMETIDINE, they have few side effects, which is why they have widespread OTC use.

Mechanism of action

PRIMARY: highly selective, competitive inhibitors of parietal cell H2 receptors

SECONDARY:  reduce intracellular cAMP
