e.g. ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, CALCIUM CARBONATE, MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE, SODIUM BICARBONATE

Drug interactions CAUSED by antacids

  1. decreased gastric pH: change (increase or decrease) absorption

  2. binding of drug in intestine: decrease absorption

  3. increased gastric emptying: decrease absorption

  4. alkalinize urine: change (increase or decrease) in elimination
