Overview / Drugs
Drugs you need to know
One of the most rapidly expanding areas of pharmacology is the development of therapeutic proteins. In particular, antibodies are receiving considerable attention as “personalized” cancer therapies, because of their specificity and the large number of potential targets. | ![]() |

this lecture will cover the fundamental principles underlying the use of therapeutic proteins, focusing specifically on the development of cytokines, fusion proteins and antibodies as drugs (i.e., ignoring hormones for the most part)
- with the exception of the cytokines that are used as hematopoietic drugs, you are not responsible for the specific names of the drugs mentioned in this lecture (you'll hear more about those drugs when they are discussed in the context of the lectures related to their function --- for example, antibodies used to treat cancer will be discussed with other antineoplastic drugs)
