Anticoagulants / DTIs / Adverse effects
Direct thrombin inhibitors : ARGATROBAN, BIVALIRUDIN, DABIGATRAN, HIRUDIN, LEPIRUDIN
Adverse effects
- BLEEDING: dose related
- increased in patients with renal insufficiency, liver injury, or recent trauma and/or treatment with other anticoagulants
- ANAPHYLACTIC REACTIONS upon re-exposure to HIRUDIN or its derivatives
- development of antibodies against the thrombin-LEPIRUDIN complex that prevent clearance by the kidney and result in an increased anticoagulant effect
- no reversal agents exist
