Dear Mathematics Student:
Since 1977 the University of Minnesota Duluth has been the host of forty-seven summer undergraduate research
programs. For 2025, Duluth will host< a program that provides free on-campus housing and up to $850 for travel
expenses for nine participants for nine weeks to do research in combinatorics and graph theory under the
supervision of experienced researchers. Participants will receive their individual problem a week before arriving
on campus and are expected to familiarize themselves with it before arriving on campus.

The stipend is $5000. Fifteen to twenty Duluth REU alumni will visit and participate in all activities.
It is expectation that each participant will be the author or coauthor of a
research paper based on his or her work done in Duluth and that this paper will
be published in a well-regarded journal.
The Duluth program offers a community-of-peers setting that emphasizes
developing the research ability of each student. Participants can work independently
or jointly with a Duluth REU alumni who is a graduate student.
Duluth is a beautiful city over-looking Lake Superior. The cool summer weather,
clean air and clear water attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. There
is much to see and do in the surrounding area. There will be organized recreational
activities such as biking, rafting, and hiking for program participants.
UMD has furnished apartments with two bedrooms, a bathroom,
kitchen and living room. Each participant will his/her own bedroom.
The exact starting and ending dates for the program are negotiable
but the target dates are June 8 through July 30, 2025. The application deadline
February 14, 2025. Applicants must be submitted via AMS Math Programs link below.
