Small-Group Work
Between Lectures and Small-group work, which is best or better for you?
Pros for small group work:
- The subject of the project or students' work is understood better.
- It keeps the group energized and motivated towards their ultimate goal.
- It provides support to finish a project and/or work.
- Helps the students practice social, problem-solving, and communication skills for real life in the workplace area.
- Helps explain, summarize, apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate subject matter.
- Planning and organization is key in group work.
Cons on Lectures:
- Students have different learning styles; some need lectures, but others don't.
- A student can only sit still and pay attention for a maximum of 15 minutes in lectures before their minds begin to wander.
- Students may find lectures boring
- Students may not feel the ability to ask questions during lectures
- No exchanges of discussion is in lectures: (Teachers don't know how much information the students are understanding or getting from their lectures.)
- Students may have trouble taking notes or have weak note-taking skills.
