UMD Theatre
Practicum Courses


All BFA Theatre Majors are required to enroll in a Practicum course each semester they are enrolled as a full time student.


Performance Practicum Courses

TH 1199 Performance Practicum I, 1 cr.
Taken by students cast in a supporting role for a UMD Theatre Production. Student ID# should be given to the director for the show in which the student is cast to receive permision to enroll.

TH 3199 Performance Practicum II, 2 cr.
Taken by students cast in a principle role for a UMD Theatre Production. Student ID# should be given to the director for the show in which the student is cast to receive permision to enroll.


Practicum Course Required of All BA & BFA Majors

TH 1399 Scenery and Properties Practicum, 2 cr.
Course requirements include working on various aspects of scenery and properties for UMD productions. No prior experience required. Laboratory times/days are determined by various sections of the course.

TH 1499 Costume Practicum, 2 cr.
Course requirements include working on various aspects of costumes for UMD productions.
No prior experience required. Laboratory times/days are determined by various sections of the course.

TH 1599 Lighting /Sound Practicum, 1 cr.
Course requirements include working on various aspects of lighting and sound for UMD productions.
No prior experience required. Laboratory times/days are determined by various sections of the course.

TH 1699 Running Crew Practicum 2 cr.
Taken by students working on a crew during performances of a specific UMD Theatre Production. No prior experience required.


Practicum Courses Required of BFA Design and Production Majors
Elective Practicum Courses for B.A. Majors

TH 2399 Production Practicum II, 1 cr.
Taken by students assuming a design or supervisory roles for a UMD Theatre production. Demonstrated proficiency of particular skill sets required. Usually taken during the Sophomore year.

TH 3399 Production Practicum II, 1 cr.
Taken by students assuming a design or supervisory role for a UMD Theatre production. Demonstrated proficiency of particular skill sets required. Usually taken during the Junior year.

TH 4399 Theatre: Special Projects, 2 cr.
Capstone course taken by BFA students in Design and Production who serve on the production team for a specific UMD Theatre Production. Course is also appropriate for students with significant involvement in a Stage 2 or Lab Series production.


Practicum Course Required of BFA Stage Management Majors

TH 3699 Production Management, 2 cr.
Taken by students assuming stage management or assistant stage management duties for a UMD Theatre production.
