Description:

Emo, or “emotional music,” defines melodic, expressive, and confessional punk rock. The word emo began being used in the mainstream in 1994 and became a catch phrase for the generation being used to describe not only the music, but a whole related subculture. Emo is widely associated with 17-23 year old males, which the majority of emo artists are. As of 2003, there were no female emo artists signed to a record label. Emo is a listener-determined and listener-driven subculture.
