History

• 73 yr old male with neuromuscular disease of unknow etiology

Radiographic Findings

• Delayed laryngeal closure
  • Laryngeal vestibular penetration during swallow
• Decreased strength of tongue base retraction
  • Vallecular/pyriform residue

Treatment

• Bolus Texture
  • Thickened liquids
    • Improves oral control and oral bolus transport
    • Facilitates pharyngeal swallow
• Double swallow
  • Improves orophayrngal clearance
• Hard swallow
  • Improves tongue base retraction
• Supraglottic swallow
  • Improves laryngeal closure and airway clearance
