: Wow! The thought of a female pope in one of the most conservative religions really lit a fire inside me in today's class so i searched the internet and found some interesting stuff. Her name was Pope Joan, and she disguised herself as a man in order att ain the papacy. there is a debate about whether or not she actually existed. there is also a pope joan book that is about this female pope and it seems to be a very well researched piece. Also check out this site for a news oriented summary and ways to get a hold of the author. I have to blast off to work, but I'll be back with lots more later.

Here are a few more sites dealing with the ex istence of a female pope and whether or not she really existed. It's interesting to read some excerpts from the book and read what some of the catholic arguments against her existence have to say.
commentary
myth argument
information
a catholic take
conspiracy theory
catholic argument
