I think that in today's society it cannot be expected for people to have as much expertise in all subjects as people during the Renaissance did. Just think of how much more information is out there today. We have high-tec machines. People can make careers working with computers that Renaissance people could not even fathom in exsistence. Science has changed immensly. Doctors and researchers have found cures and vaccines for diseases that have killed thoudsands or even millions of people. Scientists can artificially create substances and create new compounds. We have sent humans to the moon and machines to Mars. It won't be too long before we build colonies in space. Music has changed so much in the past 500 years, so it is impossible to know how to play every insrument in exsistence. Wars are fought different. Now soldiers need to know how to use their weapons and instruments, survive on the field, and how to solve problems. It is quite impossible to be an expert in every field, but that doesn't mean that a person cannot be a Renaissance person. The standards may have changed, but we can have Renaissance persons in our society.
