Holly,
Like yourself, I too have had some questions about my beliefs. I grew up going to church on Sundays and attending conformation on wednesday nights. I thought then, that going to all of those things would make me a good person and believe the word of christ. Well, in the last couple of years, espicially since I've been here at UMD, I've heard many other people's opinions. These opinions caused me to really think about myself and my religion. Why should I believe in God? How do we know that he even exists? I thought to myself, why should I believe if these questions can't be answered to us, God's children? Well, I will tell you that I do believe in God. I'm not one of those people who goes around and preaches to everyone that they know or meet. I don't like that sort of stuff. I just read your post and I thought that this would be a good way to tell the world what I believe.
I think that the word hope and religion go hand-in-hand. For some people, God and religion are a form of hope. Everyone needs some form of hope to survive. Just like they need love and a sense of acceptance. God, for some people, is the hope for the future. The hope that they and their children and their children's children will be able to live in this wonderful world forever.
I already have proof of God. He lives inside of me everyday. He put me on this beautiful earth and placed me with a loving family and found me some great friends. He makes it easier to get through tough times. I believe that everything that I am, I owe to him. But just because I beliene that he lives inside of me doesn't mean that I am perfect or any better than anyone else. I just feel that I've been given a gift. I think that everyone has that gift. They just have to realize it.
Holly, I just expressed my opinion on religion! It's funny, I was also thinking about the whole religion thing in class today too. I have never really shared this with too many other people but I thought that it would be a nice addition to the board. As for you and your opinion. I don't know you but I respect your opinion and I'm not trying to put down your beliefs in any way. I just thought that I'd share mine.
