• Twelve (12) writing assignments will be conducted on Mondays, when you will write an essay online in Canvas. The assignment will be conducted as a timed Canvas quiz.
• Each writing assignment is based on a reading or multimedia that will be indicated on the Term Schedule.
• At the beginning of the period on the day of the assignment, Canvas will make available the question(s) that your essay must address.

On the day of the assignment,

1. You may bring a single piece of paper with handwritten notes regarding the assigned reading or multimedia.
2. No other materials are allowed while you write your essay.
3. You will write your essay during a timed period using Canvas.

Essays will be graded on the basis of your narrative description, the strength of your argumentation, and writing style, spelling and grammar.

• You will not be graded on which side of a controversial issue you take, but on how well you state your case, use examples, and incorporate concepts introduced in the readings.
• Examples and concepts from the readings and multimedia are expected in your essays, but other relevant insights that you can bring to bear on the issues will strengthen your presentation.
• You must write in complete, grammatical English sentences, organized into well composed paragraphs. No outlines are allowed.

Attendance at writing assignments is expected, and will be excused only in the case of documented medical reasons or academic conflicts such as career interviews.

Absences for other reasons will be considered unexcused absences. Excused and unexcused absences can be made up if the instructor is informed in advance. Writing assignments will not be given before their scheduled dates.

Excused absences can be made up for full value. Unexcused absences will be made up with a 20% penalty each day the assignment is late.
