Accessing a DataSource in a JSP

• Include the following page directive:

       <%@ page import="java.sql.*, javax.naming.*, javax.sql.*" %>  

• Include the following Java code:

       Context ctx = new InitialContext();
       DataSource ds = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/bball");
       Connection connection = ds.getConnection();       

• Note that jdbc/bball is the resource name used in server.xml
• Now the connection object can be used to handle SQL statement objects just as was done with Servlets
• Advantage: no Java code changes if database or database driver changes
• Advantage: container handles multiple connections and disconnections
