Announcing for Fall 2012 ...
Helping students with disabilities develop college survival skills
and connect with UMD!
Who:
New UMD students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, learning disabilities, language disorders, psychiatric and other disabilities: This is for you!
You are invited to be part of a program for students who could use a little extra help connecting with UMD and their course of study.
What:
Connections: Strategies for Success
Connections: Strategies for Success (S4S) will give you opportunities to develop skills needed for meeting new friends, get involved with campus activities, manage your time and stress, and communicate better with professors and advisors. S4S is all about making your college experience more successful and more fulfilling.
Why:
University study is exciting, fun ... and challenging!
Living away from home for the first time, being responsible for self-care, adapting your study habits for demanding University classes, making new friends, developing career skills--- all are easier with peer mentor support.
How:
DR staff support, peer mentors, and career focused activities
In S4S, you will meet weekly with DR staff to talk about academic issues (including disability accommodations) and with your peer mentor to work on both study and social activities. Later in the semester, you will have opportunities for career-focused activities.
Where:
UMD and the Duluth community
Most activities will focus on UMD and campus involvement, but mentors will also introduce you to amazing things to do and see in Duluth and surrounding area.
When:
Priority Application deadline: June 29, 2012
After July 2, applicants will be accepted on a space-available basis.

Programming begins September 4, 2012
