Daniel Seddiqui, author of 50 Jobs in 50 States: One Man’s Journey of Discovery Across America, will be speaking at UMD on Wednesday, November 6, for National Career Development Month with a book signing to follow.
Daniel Seddiqui graduated in 2005 from the University of Southern California with a major in economics and nationally ranked as a track and crosscountry athlete. After graduation Daniel experienced a harsh reality. 40 job interviews failed to produce an offer, leaving him frustrated and confused. After volunteering for several years, Daniel devised a plan to work 50 jobs in 50 states in 50 weeks. He sought work that reflected the culture and economy of each state.
“Failing at forty-plus job interviews was the best thing that had ever happened to me. … I knew this sounded weird, but I would never have started my journey if I had not failed at all those interviews. I learned from those experiences not to fear failure, and that was my biggest success.”
Daniel’s 5 lessons from his experience working across America are: Perseverance, Risk Taking, Adaptability, Networking, and Endurance.
