Master of Environmental Education Program
Student outcomes of this program include the following:
- Describe the fundamental characteristics and goals of EE and the evolution of the field;
- Describe and accept the professional responsibilities and dispositions associated with practicing EE;
- Demonstrate knowledge relating to environmental processes and systems and skills for investigating and addressing environmental issues;
- Analyze an EE program in terms of the likelihood its intended outcomes will be achieved, based on its underlying program theory; suggest recommendations for increasing the likelihood of achieving outcomes based on learning theories and theories relating to responsible environmental behavior;
- Plan and implement instructionally-sound EE lessons for the nonformal settings;
- Plan and implement instructionally-sound EE lessons that support the standards-based accountability movement in formal education;
- Design and integrate assessment strategies into EE lessons;
- Design an EE program for the formal setting that supports the broader school reform efforts and higher-level EE objectives;
- Use a program/curriculum development model to guide the development of curriculum/program that supports EE goals and the goals of the agency, school, or organization;
- Develop a long range management plan for an EE-related center;
- Plan a program evaluation for an EE program and develop evaluation tools;
- Use existing EE research & research from related fields and emerging trends in EE to inform and guide practice and research; and
- Design and conduct social science research relating to EE.
