Reaching Higher for Information Excellence

The stunning UMD Library, with its award-winning interior design and welcoming collaborative spaces, is a popular place for students and faculty engaged in interactive research and dynamic learning. They come through our open doors seeking access and assistance in using the latest electronic resources and information management tools.

Our technologically advanced library is now poised to extend its role in promoting student learning and success through new service initiatives that will enable students to reach their highest academic goals.

We are in the planning stages of developing a learning commons—a space offering extended hours, knowledgeable library and IT staff assistance, and other essential services. Our goal is to design the most productive environment for students working on a variety of projects, whether their assignments take graphical, written, musical, or multimedia form.

As the UMD Library refines and transforms its services to meet the changing needs of users, one aspect of our mission will remain paramount. We must sustain and build the excellence of the information resources we offer. Our physical facility is impressive, but we must continue to acquire exciting new digital resources to keep pace with a changing information world.

We hope that you will take advantage of the opportunity to leave your mark at UMD by naming a space in the Library. Possibilities include naming a networked group study room, a computer laboratory, a seminar classroom, or perhaps the learning commons itself. For more information, please contact Diane Skomars, Director of Development, at 218-726-7467 or toll free at 1-866-726-7110, or e-mail: dskomars@d.mn.edu.

The Program Endowment for Information Excellence supports the UMD Library’s provision of the best new digital products as well as the most up-to-date print materials for UMD students, faculty, and community patrons. Your gift will guarantee that the Library can continue to acquire and make available these essential learning resources and tools.
Opportunities still exist for friends like you to take advantage of naming opportunities in the UMD Library in order to support the Endowment for Information Excellence. Your generous gift will be an investment that will assure UMD students a positive and productive learning environment well into the 21 st century.
