Prerequisite Coursework (Preparatory Courses)

If you are required to complete prerequisite or preparatory courses for admittance into an undergraduate, graduate, or professional program, you may be eligible for federal student loans for one, consecutive, 12-month period.

To be considered for financial aid for prerequisite courses, you must submit a Petition to Reinstate Financial Aid Eligibility. The petition must be signed by your adviser, and must list the course(s) you are required to take in order to be admitted to the program. Prerequisite or preparatory coursework must be part of an eligible program offered by UMD or any accredited college or university.

Taking courses for the purpose of raising your GPA to be admitted into an eligible program does not meet the requirement; the specific course(s) that you take must be required for admission into the eligible program.
