Computer Checkup
Have an old computer that needs some updating? Let ITSS assess the current capability of your computer hardware, update the basic software, and check for spyware or other malware that may be bogging your system down. We'll also make sure it's in compliance with the University Standard - Securing Private Data.
As part of the Computer Checkup service, we will:
- Determine the processor speed, the current amount of memory (RAM), and the total and available hard disk space of your computer. Run an analysis to determine if hard drive should be defragmented.
- Check to see whether the fan is operating properly and whether the interior of the computer is building up dust.
- Determine the level of the operating system; apply any operating system updates or security patches.
- Run a full anti-virus and anti-spyware scan.
- Run Quickstart Level 1 (all computers) to:
- Activate the Windows XP firewall
- Disable Windows file and printer sharing
- Set up automatic Windows Updates for installation of patches
- Run Quickstart Level 2 (computers that store or access private data).
- Update the following application software as needed:
- Mulberry
- Other email clients (Thunderbird, Outlook, Eudora)
- Firefox, Netscape, Internet Explorer
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Novell client (Windows)
