• A Modular Approach to Teaching/Learning the World Wide Web - These materials were designed by Mike Powell, Marsha Tate, and Jan Alexander, Reference Librarians at the Wolfgram Memorial Library, Widener University.
• American Center for the Study of Distance Education (ACSDE) - The American Center for the Study of Distance Education (ACSDE) was established in 1988, aiming to become a network of scholars who have a common interest in studying, teaching, and doing research in the field of distance education.
• Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning - "Widely recognized as a premier conference in distance education, this event attracts more than 1100 distance educators, trainers, and executives from the United States, Canada, and around the world."
• Connexions - An environment for collaboratively developing, freely sharing, and rapidly publishing scholarly content on the Web.
• DECT - The Distance Education and Training Council (formerly the National Home Study Council) is a non profit educational association located in Washington, D.C. DECT serves as a clearinghouse of information about the distance study/correspondence field and sponsors a nationally recognized accrediting agency called the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council.
• Delivering Instruction on the World Wide Web - Thomas Fox McManus University of Texas at Austin.
• Distance Education at a Glance - Barry Willis, University of Idaho.
• Distance Education Clearinghouse - This site "provides a wide range of information about distance education and related resources. This comprehensive and widely recognized site brings together distance education information from Wisconsin, national, and international sources. New information and resources are being added to the Distance Education Clearinghouse on a continuing basis. The Clearinghouse is managed and maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Extension, in cooperation with its partners and other UW institutions." It includes a D. E. conference database.

• ITV - Interactive Television system is made up of classrooms on all statewide campuses of the University of Minnesota.
• Keys to Facilitating Successful Online Discussions - Donna Raleigh, Coordinator of Technical Training and Instructional Technology, Media Development Center, UW-Eau Claire. Electronic discussions are becoming a ever larger part of college courses, from pure distance-ed to hybrids. What can students gain by participating in online discussions? Which route is better, e-mail lists or threaded discussions on a course web site? Should the instructor be a "lurker" or an active participant? These should occur in carefully structured, sequenced activities that are frequently assessed. The technology is merely a tool to help implement these techniques."
• MERLOT - Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching is a FREE and OPEN resource designed primarily for faculty and students in higher education. "With a continually growing collection of online learning materials, assignments and reviews, MERLOT helps faculty enhance instruction. MERLOT is also a community of people who strive to enrich teaching and learning experiences. "

• Teaching Online: A Practical Guide - Susan Ko and Steve Rossen.
• Teaching at an Internet Distance: the Pedagogy of Online - "This document is the product of the University of Illinois Teaching at an Internet Distance Seminar. The group met throughout 1998-99 to study the pedagogy of online learning, to examine what made teaching to be good teaching, whether in the classroom or online, and to suggest how online teaching and learning can be done with high quality at the University of Illinois."
• Technology as Lever - Arthur W. Chickering and Stephen C. Ehrmann.
• The Node - Technologies for Learning, collection of papers (both informal and formal) and interviews describing practitioners' experiences using integrated learning packages for the development and delivery of online courses. This not-for-profit organization forges "links between the capabilities of new technology tools and good pedagogical practice."
• The United States Distance Learning Association - is a non-profit association formed in 1987 by Patrick Portway, Dr. Smith Holt of Oklahoma State University and Dr. Ralph Mills of California State University. The association's purpose is to promote the development and application of distance learning for education and training.
• Using Instructional Design Principles to Amplify Learning on the World Wide Web - Donn C. Ritchies and Bob Hoffman.
• Web-Based Learning and Teacher Preparation: Stumbling Blocks and Stepping Stones - Patricia E. Ragan, Arthur P. Lacey, and Robert A. Nagy.

• Web-based Training, Convenient Internet classrooms provide flexibility.
