Novell Services
Using your Novell account
When your Novell account is opened, you will receive an email with the account name and a temporary password. The temporary password will expire after 7 logins; you must change it during this grace period or your account will be locked. After that, your Novell password will expire every 180 days; you will be notified at login beginning one week prior to the expiration date.
In addition to a Novell account, Windows users currently need to have the Novell client software installed on their computer. (Mac uses do not need any client software.) The client software allows your computer to "talk" to the Novell office server. If you don't get a Novell login prompt when you turn your computer on, you need to have the Novell client software installed. Contact the Help Desk (x8847) to set up an appointment.
Following are detailed instructions for logging on to access Novell services for Windows XP/2000, Win98/ME, and Macintosh.
WinXP/2000
Logging on to Novell (WinXP/2000)
Once you have your Novell account and the Novell client (Windows) installed, you can log in to the server to access the Novell services (file storage/sharing, software and/or printing).
- On the Novell Login window (shown below), enter your Novell user name and password and click OK to log in to Novell. (If you have requested a new account, your Novell user name and a temporary password will be emailed to you.)

- At this time, you may also be prompted to enter a Windows 2000/XP user name and password. This is an account that is set up on your workstation. (If your Novell account and workstation account are synchronized, you will not see this second login window.)

If you do not know what this password is, you can try the following:
- If you recently changed your Novell password and did not change your Workstation password, try entering your old Novell password here (they are often synchronized on computers). If it works, you may want to update your Workstation password to match your Novell password (see Changing your WinXP/2000 Workstation password).
- If you recently tried to change your Workstation password, try entering your old Workstation password. (It may be that the password change was not made and you missed the error message indicating this.) To update your Workstation password, see Changing your WinXP/2000 Workstation password.
- If this computer belonged to another user, ask that person to login, then change the workstation password (see Changing your WinXP/2000 Workstation password).
- If you do not know the password and can not login to the workstation, contact the ITSS Help Desk (x8847). An ITSS staff member will need to make a site visit to create a temporary workstation password.
Logging in as Workstation Only:
To bypass the Novell login and log into your Windows 2000/XP workstation (computer) only:
- On the Novell Login window, check the Workstation Only box.
- Type in your Windows 2000 workstation user name and password (which may be different than your Novell user name and password).
- Click OK.
At this time, you will have access to your network applications (email, Internet) but not to Novell services (Novell printing, server software, files stored on the server). To log in to the Novell server at a later time:
- RIGHT-click on the red "N" in the task bar (lower right corner).
- Select "Netware Login" from the menu.
- On the Novell Login window, type in your Novell user name and password and click OK to log in to Novell.

Win98/ME computers
Logging in to Novell (Win ME/98)
Once you have your Novell account and the Novell client (Windows) installed, you can log in to the server to access the Novell services (file storage/sharing, software and/or printing).
On the Novell Login window, enter your Novell user name and password and click OK. (If you have requested a new account, your Novell user name and a temporary password will be emailed to you.)

Logging in without Novell
To bypass the Novell login, click the Cancel button. You will have access to your network applications (email, Internet) but not to Novell services (Novell printing, server software, files stored on the server).
Macintosh computers
Logging in with OSX
Once you have your Novell account and the Novell client (Windows) installed, you can log in to the server to access the Mac Novell services (file storage/sharing and software).
****** Logging in to the new Novell Office Server with OSX
1. In the Finder, select "Connect to Server" from the "Go" menu.
2. In the "Server Address" box at the top of window that appears enter:
officefiles - to connnect to the Files volume
or, officeapps - to connect to the Mac Applications volume
After you type in "officefiles" or "officeapps," click on the + (plus sign) button to the right to add it to your Favorite Servers list.
3. Click "Connect".
4. In the server login dialog box make sure you change whatever username shows up in the "Name:" field (likely your OSX account's "long name") to your Novell username (likely the same as your email account).
5. Enter your Novell password in the Password field and click the Connect button or press RETURN.
6. You should then get a dialog box offering you the "Files" or "Mac Applications" volume. Click OK to connect.
Once connected, you can drag the Files volume icon to your Dock (on the side
nearest the Trash icon) and use that for future connections. You'll only be
connecting to the Mac Applications volume occasionally, so it's probably not
worth adding it to the Dock.
Logging in with OS8-9
1. From the Apple menu, open the Chooser.
2. Click on the AppleShare icon in the upper left.
3. Click on the "Server IP Address" button in the middle right.
4. In the window that appears enter:
officefiles - to connnect to the Files volume
or, officeapps - to connect to the Mac Applications volume
5. Click "Connect".
6. In the "Connect to File Server" dialog box that appears make sure you change whatever username shows up in the "Name:" field to your Novell username (likely the same as your email account).
7. Enter your Novell password in the Password field and click the Connect button or press RETURN.
8. You should then get a dialog box offering you "officefiles" or "officeapps" . Click OK to connect.
Once connected, you can create an alias to the volumes on your Desktop and
use that for future connections. You'll only be connecting to the Mac Applications
volume occasionally, so it's probably not worth creating an alias to that.
Changing your Novell Office Server password with OSX
Macintosh users will need to change their password from the temporary password, which will only work a limited number of times. This is done in the server login window. This won't work if you're currently connected to the server volume. You'll need to unmount the server volume first.
1. Bring up the login window for the Files volume by selecting "Connect to Server" from the Finder's "Go" menu and then enter "officefiles", or double-click on the "officefiles" server shortcut on your Dock if you've added one there.
2. Make sure you change whatever username shows up in the "Name:" field (likely your OSX account's "long name") to your Novell username (likely the same as your email account). Don't enter your password.
3. If you are using OSX 10.2 or 10.3, click on the "Options" button and then click on the "Change Password" button. If you are using OSX 10.4, click on the icon that looks like a gear at the lower left and choose "Change Password" from the pop-up list.
4. Enter your old password and then your new password (twice). If you're using OSX 10.2 or 10.3 passwords are limited to 8 characters. If you're using OSX 10.4 you can enter more than 8 characters for a password, but only the first 8 characters will be used.
5. Click OK to return to the Login screen.
6. Enter your new password in the "Password" field and click "Connect" to
mount the server volume.
Changing your Novell Office Server password with OS8-9
Macintosh users will need to change their password from the temporary

from the Chooser.
1. Follow the OS9 login steps above to get to the login dialog box for the Novell Office Server (the box where you would enter your username and password).
