Creating and Editing Tables 2

To make the first row headers:

  1. select the entire first row (all cells of the first row should be outlined)
  2. in the "Properties" panel, check the box "Header"

The selected cells will be bold and centered.

To left-justify the headers:

  1. look in the "Properties" panel for the icon "Align Left" (use those Tool Tips!)
  2. click on the "Align Left" icon

Your table should now look like the one below:

Table with header cells for the top row
Workshop Date Time Location
PageMill 3.x 03/01/99 10:15 AM - 12 noon Eng 204
PageMill 3.x II 03/01/99 1 PM - 3:30 PM Eng 204

To increase the spacing between cells:

  1. select the entire table (the table will be outlined and have resize boxes)
  2. go to the "Properties" panel and type in a value of "10" for "CellSpace"
  3. hit "return" or "enter"

Look what happens below:

Table with increased cell spacing
Workshop Date Time Location
PageMill 3.x 03/01/99 10:15 AM - 12 noon Eng 204
PageMill 3.x II 03/01/99 1 PM - 3:30 PM Eng 204

Also in "Properties" panel:

  1. Change "Border" to "0"
  2. Hit "enter" or "return"

You'll get something like this:

Table without a border
Workshop Date Time Location
PageMill 3.x 03/01/99 10:15 AM - 12 noon Eng 204
PageMill 3.x II 03/01/99 1 PM - 3:30 PM Eng 204

In the "Properties" panel, "CellPad" is used to move the contents of the cell away from the edge of the cell (cell border). Give it a try but remember to set "Border" to something other than "0" to help see the effect.

You may think this is the end of tables, but there is more! When you're ready to move on, please go to "Creating and Editing Tables 3."
