Workshop Descriptions

American Sign Language
What does a Sign Language interpreter do? Learn about how you can become an interpreter and learn some sign language in this fun workshop.

Facilities Management Heating Plant
Discover secret passageways and tunnels at UMD. Learn about the science of steam and how heating and air conditioning affect the environment. Participants will learn how to use a laser thermometer, tour the chiller and heating plants and explore some of our secret passageways. Everyone will receive a pair of ear plugs. Participants should wear shoes they can walk in.

Facilities Management Engineering
Learn what we do in Facilities Management for the campus. You will also learn a little history on Archetectural Drawings. How we keep records of our utilities on a Map. How we work with departments on remodeling projects. Then we let you do some hands on drafting on the computer, and print out their work.

UMD Stores
Participants will have the opportunity to tour the store facilities and learn what takes place in each area on a day to day basis. They will then be assigned to an area to help stock merchandise and provide customer service.

Pharmacy
Do you know what a pharmacist does? Ever wonder how medicine works in your body? Pharmacists are experts on medicine and use science and math to help people get well and stay well. Come learn more about medicine and pharmacy.

KUMD
Learn about what it takes to make Radio! Get a tour of the KUMD radio station, learn about local music, and record a radio break in the studio!
