Depression is an illness that involves the body and the mind. It affects the way a person interacts with the world around them, their self-image, and perception. In any given year, 9.5% of Americans, or about 18.8 million people, suffer from a depressive illness. Dr. Luehr will describe the factors that influence depression and how depression can, in turn, affect other medical conditions. He will also outline the brain chemistry of depression and how antidepressant medications work.
Dr. David D. Luehr is a family physician at the Raiter Clinic in Cloquet, and is an associate clinical professor in the University of Minnesota Medical School.
The lecture is free and the public is cordially invited.
"DocTalks" are presented the 2nd Tuesday of every month, (September through April,) at 7:30 p.m. in Room 142 of the School of Medicine, Duluth.
