Each year, the UMD Baeumler-Kaplan Holocaust Commemoration Committee features speakers, films and other educational opportunities addressing the Holocaust. All lectures are free and the public is cordially invited. The highlight of this year's program features Holocaust survivor David Gewirtzman and Rwandan refugee/survivor Eugenie Mukeshimana, who will present a lecture titled "Holocaust and Genocide, Past and Present" on Monday, April 18 at 4:30 p.m. at UMD, in room Chemistry 200.
This year, the Committee will begin with a film series. Each film presents a different aspect of the Holocaust, and as a series, they present a powerful story. A guest facilitator will lead a discussion after each film showing.
Schedule of the 2005 UMD Baeumler-Kaplan Holocaust film series:
The final movie will serve as an introduction to the Committee's Commemoration
Lecture, and marks a significant (exciting) change from past lectures.
The keynote commemorative lecture, "Holocaust and Genocide, Past
and Present" will feature Holocaust survivor David Gewirtzman and
Rwandan refugee/survivor Eugenie Mukeshimana to be held on Monday, April
18 at 4:30 p.m. in UMD Chemistry 200. Speaking together, these survivors
powerfully illustrate that the lessons of the Holocaust have not been
learned.
