University of Minnesota Duluth
Professional Staff Council Meeting Minutes
April 17, 1997

Attendees: Penny Cragun, Jan DeRoche, Lynn Hegrenes, Brenda Herzig, Jeff Romano, Donna Triebwasser, Debbie Wing

P&A Consultation on Search Guideline Changes: There will be a meeting on April 30th at noon in the Ballroom. Janny Walker is planning on attending. Lynn has copies of information on this if anyone is interested. This only affects P&A staff, not civil service.

Spring Quarter Forum: The date is set for Tuesday, May 6th from 1:00 - 2:00 in the BullPub. Steve Hedman and John Hatten will discuss the nuts and bolts of semester conversion, including how it affects professional staff.

Meeting with President Hasselmo: Monday, April 21, 1:30 - 2:00 p.m. in the Regents' Room. The Professional Staff Council is invited to meet with President Hasselmo at this time. About eight members of the PSC will be attending this meeting. We generated a few questions to ask him: What direction will the University be taking in the future? How will our roles change in the continuing conversion to technology? How will distance education affect our future? How's the transition of leadership progressing and what can we do at UMD to assist in this process?

PSC Elections: Even though the outcome of the professional civil service staff union election will be known by May 7th, we've been advised that the makeup of the professional staff association will not be affected by the outcome of the union election, so the PSC will be moving ahead with elections.

Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee: This is a sub-committee of the Ed Policy Committee (EPC). Dick Haney, who has encouraged the PSC to push for representation on this committee, provided further info via e-mail to the PSC. Lynn will be checking with Bob Carlson (chair of EPC) on this issue. Meanwhile, a professional staff member has already requested to be the representative on that committee.
