Freshmen Presidential Candidates

Pres Candidate Hunter Remington

Name: Hunter Remington

Major: Graphic Design

What you like to do (hobbies, backgrounds, etc.)?

I am from Watertown, Minnesota, and in high school, I was very involved with the community (which I will explain in the next question). I took as many college classes as I could while in high school, and I like to pack my schedule with many activities and responsibilities because being involved keeps me motivated.

What makes you qualified as a leader of your peers?

In high school, I was in many activities, and in these activities, I took a leader role in helping my coaches to keep everything in-line. In choir, I held the positions of Treasurer, Vice-President, and President. In speech, I was a co-captain my senior year and lead my team to receive second place at our Section meet for the first time ever. In Mock Trial, I was assigned the role as an expert witness, and my testimony helped my team make it to the State tournament. Along with these activities, I participated in National Honor Society, and this involvement taught me to not only cherish my own time, but it also showed me to use my time to help my community.

Why you believe you will work well within SA as the Freshmen President?

Being in so many activities, I have learned to work with my teams, other captains, and coaches. I believe that I am a person who works well on my own but also work just as well with other people because I am open to listening to the ideas of others, and I push everyone to feel included.

What issues facing your peers do you want to work on within SA?

Since I am new to UMD, I am not sure what kind of issues really exist on campus, but one that I would like to fix is access to more convenient parking on-campus for students who live in the dorms. Although I do not know a lot about what is effecting the campus, I want to make it a priority to learn what needs to be done and what can be done to fix problems.

Pres Candidate Jordan Imdieke

Name: Jordan Imdieke

Major: Marketing

What you like to do (hobbies, backgrounds, etc.)?

Throughout most of my high school career I was involved in speech and drama, both activities pushing me into the public eye and fueling my love for public speaking. Another thing I am in love with is anything outdoors, including playing sports, hiking, exercising, camping, and climbing. A large majority of my passion for the outdoors is derived from my experience in Boy Scouts, where I earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Finally, just some fun tidbits about me I love comedy and I do close up magic, so if you want either come find me.

What makes you qualified as a leader of your peers?

In my personal experience with leadership, I have found that it requires a perfect balance between confidence, drive, and humility to create the most well rounded leader. If I did not slow down and humble myself at points, I would have missed the inputs of others, which often become important points I would have overlooked. The position of Freshman President takes someone who can both listen and speak strongly when needed and will have the motivation to get there checklist completed. Above everything remember that your trust, the most valued virtue to gift another being, is waiting to be given to candidate, and I hope you can trust that gift with me.

Why you believe you will work well within SA as the Freshmen President?

I am a very goal oriented person, so I can say in full certainty I will get my agenda and more completed while in student association. I will put all differences aside in order to achieve any goal. I want to be your Freshmen President to improve the situation for the freshman class and I will hold that belief throughout my entire freshman year regardless of the election results.

What issues facing your peers do you want to work on within SA?

I believe that many students in the freshman class are still having a difficult time settling into college. With more frequent activities like money management and stress relieving seminars, freshmen will have an easier adjustment into their newfound freedom. I would also like there to be more activity and job awareness gauged towards freshmen. Many of us are currently lost looking for work study or are missing out of activities we are passionate about, because we don't know how to get involved.
