UMD Students 4 Puerto Rico

Image of Flooding in Puerto Rican Street

Eight weeks after the largest hurricane to hit the US, the death toll in Puerto Rico is still rising. This problem stems from the island still being largely without power. Patients do not have access to the treatments they need due to the power crisis and destruction of infrastructure.

The UMD Student Association and the University Honors Student Association have joined hands to fundraise for Puerto Rico and we need your help.

With the season of giving upon us, we ask that you approach your families over the upcoming break and beyond, to join hands and help the people of Puerto Rico. We understand that many college students might not be in a position to give, however, you can all at least ask 10 people you know to donate. Donors can give cash, write out checks to Heart to Heart or donate online at http://www.hearttoheart.org/umd. You can form a team with your friends, roommates, fraternity, sorority or student org. We are also challenging UMD departments to do the same.

Getting Started

Donations are collected over the next month and turned in to Joelle in the UH lounge during finals week (12/11 - 12/15). To get started, visit the honors lounge (21 EduE) and get a team envelope. Once you get signed up, challenge another department, student org, or friend to start a team as well. The winning team will receive $100 gift card. If you have any questions about the fundraiser, and/or where to find individuals with envelopes to collect donations, please contact Becca Sauter at saute068@d.umn.edu, or Elly Johnson at joh13900@d.umn.edu .
