2019 Gilman Scholarship
The U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship provides students needing financial help with grants for international learning.
The Gilman Scholarship was created to increase the number of students able to study abroad. The award is for students who show high financial need. This program aims to help students who come from populations often underrepresented such as ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, students in STEM majors, etc.
The program started by The Institute of International Education in 2001 and awards nearly 3,000 students each year with up to $5,000 dollars. The aim of this program is career readiness for college students with an emphasis on non-western countries and "critical need languages" such as Arabic, Swahili and Mandarin. 64% of Gilman Scholars either took language courses or courses taught in another language during their time abroad.

The application for summer 2019 and fall 2019/academic year 2019-2020 programs will open in mid-January and student applications are due March 5, 2019 by 11:59 pm central time.
